At the Eye Center of Northern Colorado, the funds in both of these types of savings accounts can be used for routine eye exams, prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses, a contact lens fitting, new contact lenses, corrective laser eye surgery such as LASIK, aesthetic and oculoplastic procedures, and eye care accessories.
Health Savings Account (HSA)
- A savings account that lets you set aside untaxed money to pay for qualified medical expenses, vision and dental care costs for you and your immediate family
- Used for deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, some prescription and over-the-counter medications, long-term care expenses and others
- Funds roll over year to year if they are not spent
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
- A special account you put untaxed money into throughout the year that you can use to pay for qualified out-of-pocket health care costs for medical, vision, and dental expenses for you and your immediate family
- Used for copayments, deductibles, some prescription and over-the-counter medications and other costs, but not insurance premiums
- Funds typically need to be used within a year and may be lost if not spent
