The Eye Center of Northern Colorado has been involved with Clinical Research since 2003. Our Principle Investigators are involved with Phase II through Phase IV research involving drug and device.
Phase I: Designed to assess the safety of a drug or device using a small number
of healthy volunteers.
Phase II: Designed to assess the efficacy of a drug or device and can involve up
to several hundred patients. This phase usually involves a placebo
which is an inactive substance used as a control in a clinical trial to
determine the effectiveness of the medical drug.
Phase III: Designed to create a more thorough understanding of the effectiveness
or a drug or device and can involve several hundred to several thousand
patients. Once a drug or device has survived this phase of testing, a
FDA approval can be requested by a pharmaceutical company.
Phase IV: Clinical trials conducted after a drug or device has a FDA approval.
The goals of these trials fall into several categories; 1) comparison of
drug to other similar drugs, 2) to monitor long-term effectiveness and
impact on the patient’s quality of life and 3) to further assess the cost-
effectiveness of the new drug or device.
Our Principle Investigators are: Patrick Arnold, M.D., Kent Bashford, D.O., Gary Foster, M.D., Karl Olsen, M.D. and Randall Smith, M.D. This year, Dr. Crews and Dr. Korotkin, our retinal doctors will be joining the Eye Center’s research team.
We are currently enrolling in many different studies with various drugs and devices. Please call the research department; Terri @ studysupport@eyecenternoco.com or ext 274 and Ana @ achiodo@eyecenternoco.com or ext 240 to see if you qualify for one of our studies.
