Pediatric Eye Care

The Eye Center of Northern Colorado has a fellowship trained pediatric ophthalmologist, Dr. Patrick Arnold, to meet your child's eye care needs. Development of the visual system occurs from birth through the first decade of life. Several conditions such as misalignment of the eyes (strabismus), significant refractive errors, and cataracts can interfere with visual development. Some conditions have no symptoms and can only be detected through a complete eye examination. Treatment of childhood eye diseases is most successful at early ages and may include glasses, patching, eye drops, or even surgery. An examination can be performed at any age if a problem is suspected.

Routine evaluation is ideally performed around three and one-half years of age. At the Eye Center of Northern Colorado your child will undergo a complete examination in order to detect and treat any potential problems.

Our experience with Dr. Arnold was profound in many ways and when our 12 year old daughter failed her school vision screening I didn’t hesitate to make her a routine eye care appointment with Dr. Arnold. During that exam it became apparent that her slightly poor vision was the result of a serious problem. Dr. Arnold moved quickly on his findings and arranged for an MRI that same day and a neurosurgery consultation at Denver’s Children Hospital the next day. Charli was diagnosed and treated for a brain tumor. She continues to see Dr. Arnold to monitor the progress of her vision. Dr. Arnold has been gracious with his time and advice when I needed another opinion to help sort out our many medical concerns. His prompt action and connection to pediatric medical specialists saved us days of worrying and researching our next move.



In the spring of 2006, Dr. Arnold once again came to our rescue when he diagnosed and treated a serious corneal tear in our 15 year old daughter’s eye. Although the condition was serious we were at ease with the protocol of her care and confident in Dr. Arnold’s decisions.



Regardless of the situation, whether routine eye care or serious injury we will continue to be patients of the Eye Center for as long as we live in Northern Colorado. The care my children received went beyond medical expertise. I now look upon Mac’s Christmas day mishap as a gift that led us to a practice with physicians whose experience, knowledge and compassion is exceptional.
