What is Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is a condition that becomes noticeable for most people in their 40s – even those who have never had to wear glasses in the past. Although presbyopia is not completely understood, it is thought that as we grow older, the eyes’ natural lenses begin to thicken and lose flexibility. With less elasticity, the eyes have more difficulty focusing on things up close. To compensate, you may need to hold reading material further away from your eyes to make the image clearer.

Presbyopia can be dealt with in a number of ways. Options include: reading glasses, monovision and multifocal contact lenses, monovision laser vision correction and new presbyopia-correcting lens options.
